We're now a month out from Freeplay, and while the dust is settling
and our final reports are whistling through the tubes of the internet
to our sponsors, we're looking at what we can do in the time between
now and Freeplay 2010.
For the 158 of you who signed up to our mailing list during the
event, we've set up a forum on our website -
www.freeplay.net.au/forum as a place to hang out, discuss indie
development, give feedback on Freeplay, and talk about whatever else
you might want. Make sure you read the New Members post here -
http://www.freeplay.net.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2 - to get
access to the private area of the boards.
There's also been interest in organising meetups in the real-world,
and they've already happened, with more discussion on future ones
taking place on the board here:
http://www.freeplay.net.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=9. Time and place is
currently every second Monday or Tuesday at The Horse Bazaar in the
city.
We were particularly inspired by Petri's keynote and his approach to
making experimental games quickly to test out ideas - so much so that
we're going to try and do our own project in Melbourne based on the
model here http://experimentalgameplay.com/ We're a little too late
for September, but space has been set aside on the forum -
http://www.freeplay.net.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=19 - to discuss a
possible theme for next month and then come October 1st, we'll kick
off, and then hopefully have an exhibition and discussion of the
projects in early November.
Film Victoria have organised a digital distribution summit at BMW
Edge on September 29. There are some really interesting people
speaking, and it's free to attend. Details are here:
http://ddsummit.com/ We'll be there, tweeting and blogging the whole
thing.
And lastly, we've had some meetings about other events that we're
thinking about between now and Freeplay 2010. If you have any ideas,
drop us an email to info@freeplay.net.au or start a conversation on
our forums.
Cheers,
Paul and Eve
Freeplay Directors
