Grass
1965
mechanism modified, Stainless steel on wood base with motor
223 x 158 x 42.5 cm

Slender steel rods vibrate and brush against each other as the wooden plank gently tilts from side to side.

This concept of design i found was quiet fascinating as you can see the intricate little steel rods that act as grass or hair move from side to side against each other in a natural manner which can be a little disturbing to some people as the movement of the material is something you wouldn't expect. As with many of Len lye's kinetic scultures the object always has a source of force for the movement mostly wind which is a great way for viewers to see that with every action there is a reaction.
