Please post the treatment for your major project in the cpomments below. And see you Tuesday with your short presentations of a cartoonist/graphic novelist, or series...
My project will be based on a central and universal character, a ‘girl’, and the character as one or many, will be communicated through images and text. I am using a range of media to compile the images such as pen and ink, felt tips, software and a mixture of paper (i.e. tracing, transparent sheet, textured). Ultimately, everything will be scanned into the computer and prepared in PhotoShop as a graphic novel/comic book.
Stylistically, my work will be grungy fused with prettiness. I like combining the color pink, as well as other pastels, with things that inspire discord or disturbance. I also want to bring the ‘hand made’ aesthetic to the final product, even if the majority of it will be digital. Another feature of my work is the protagonist/subject, which is always female – not only as a biographical device, but as a umbrella for many other things i.e. image, destruction, beauty, sexuality and manipulation. With these terms in mind, I can explore and develop more contemporary ideas of the femme fatale, the damsel in dstress etc
Although there will be no conventional story line in my comic, I will use extracts from poems I’ve written that will evoke imagery in the reader’s mind when coupled with the images. The sort of imagery I am hoping to create is one of the nameless protagonist, lonely in her desperate kingdom of her and everything about her. I want to portray disconnection, emptiness and numbness – but through my eyes, and not using pre-existing symbols which have their own connotations.
I'm not going to bore you by running through each and every scene and page and blah blah, here's just what I intend to do overall. That's all you need to see.
