digital art and games

A network for rmit students studying games, media/digital arts and comix

Please put your comment here what do you think of the factors in the exhibition.

First factor is whether or not we'll have catering at the event. As there is only minimal budget given to this exhibiton for drinks, we do not have enough money to provide catering aswell. We wish to know whether or not we shall forego the food and just have drinks, or have both for the event.
If food is wanterd, we are asking anyone if they know somone that may wish to sponsor us for this event (tax-free). Else we will need some money from everyone to attain the catering.

The second factor is whether or not we'lll have portfolios at the exhibition. As their is a possibility that some people from Games and Animations companies will be attending this event, we need your input on having them in there or not.
If they will be in there, which one do people feel more comfortable in having, Hardcopy or Electronic? And if they will be electronic, would people be willing to bring in their own laptops to present them?

Hey guys (who read this),

It would be a good idea if you would have portfolios at the exhibition. The people who are really interested in getting into the video game industry now and next year, this would be a perfect opportunity to do so. I hear they are looking for people now and until early next year too!

Is there a kitchen in the info center that you guys might have access to?

I don't really think having finger food is important since it's only a two hour event, but of course it'd be nice if there was.

I guess the alternative to not getting it professionally catered is to do it ourselves. We can just heat up stuff (e.g. parties pies!) in the oven or atleast use their fridge to store sushi or dips or something.

You could also have both hardcopy and electronic portfolios. Not everyone will have a laptop to bring in (like me).

Skip on the food.

Have portfolios otherwise the games students will only have their major project to exhibit (yes it's the point, but is that all we got?) Unless we need additional space...

How do you guys wanna have the portfolios set up as?

Have a laptop set up for everyone to present the work on? The issue would be the file size and memory of the laptop though. Or by bringing in copies of your own cds containing your portfolio and hand them out to game companies interested?

Of course, having a print out of your best works is pretty handy, though the problem is where to place them.

Below is details for a RMIT student union info session. (take a look at it for funding final games exhibition).

RMIT Union Arts Council arts grants
Get funding for your arts projects or programs – Information session Friday 28 March 2008

RMIT Union Arts Council, a student-run group, invites RMIT Alumni (particularly from art, media or design backgrounds) to attend an information session to find out about arts funding for 2008. Past and current students can apply for up to $2500 per semester from Arts Council for an arts project or program. Groups and individuals are encouraged to create art in all forms. Your project/program has to be happening in 2008 and the more chances for other RMIT alumni or students to get involved the better. Projects emphasising arts on campus are ideal.
Information session
When: Friday 28 March, 12:30pm to 2:30pm
Where: University Function Room, Level 1, 360 Swanston Street, City campus (next to the Kaleide Theatre), Melbourne.
RSVP essential: Contact Arts Council President Marco Cher-Gibard, email marco.chergibard@student.rmit.edu.au or phone 0423 656 702.
Semester One funding applications are due by 5.00 pm Monday 7 April 2008 to the Union Arts office (across the foyer from Kaleide Theatre). Funding decisions will be announced on Monday 28 April 2008.
For enquiries related to your funding application, contact Arts Council Grants Convenor Marcia Jane at marcia.jane@student.rmit.edu.au.

I believe those art grants have passed. Unless there are grants for semester 2.

To what applies for us this exhibit answering the question relating to last years exhibit.

Yes to portfolios. Hardcopies and Electronic. Display your portfolio on a screen (or a number of portfolios on a screen) we'll see how many screens we need, we can use TVs for animations of screen captures, with the hardcopies of the ones shown next to the Player for those who are interested to grab. Computers for games that want to be played.

I think we should be responsible for our own DVDs at your own cost, or perhaps do a collaborative portfolio with your Media Project team. We need to learn from last years mistakes with their DVDs. If we can improve it though I say go for it!

Catering will cost an arm and a leg. We can pay up to a certain price just for finger foods. If we want waitering that'll cost more, but I guess we could be our own waiters. Depends how long the event goes for as well. Food doesn't stay warm. We could do a sort of bake sale, everyone brings some sort of food. Pizza is a good option. It's relatively cheap.
