digital art and games

A network for rmit students studying games, media/digital arts and comix

Online exhibitions are as varied, if not more so, as physical exhibitions. Find a 'good' online exhibition; post a short description, a brief explanation of what you think is worthwhile about it and a link to it.

The gallery i have chosen is the gallery of Laurenz Bobke.

Basically it covers a huge variety and styles of photographs taken by, Bobke. From landscapes from his travels around the world and wildlife to focusing on particular subjects like light, fog and mist, and reflections. The images are named and most of them include descriptions of the photographs.

The variety of images included in this gallery is amazing, with many other interesting links to also view. The layout is simple, and easy to navigate around the site, and it's easy to contact Bobke directly through the website.

Sophie, this is very on the edges of not appropriate, even tho it's a nice site with nice pics -- as we discussed in class - a 'good' online exhibition is one that is at its best experienced online, whereas photographs -- esp. in this traditional sense -- are best experienced offline in all their millions of colours, subtle gradient analogue glory.

FIRST!!! yes that means HD

http://www.angonysart.com/

This is the site i chose, to be completely honest i had never seen this gallery before today, but it really caught my eye. The artists name is Angony, he was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1969. I really like these paintings due to the very dominant 'Peter Booth' Style. They are dark and most of the paintings portray themes we are used to, such as the city and its lifestyle. Although the paintings are all quite simple, they are all so visually enticing.

Great that you were so quick off the mark gerry -- but you've somewhat missed the boat... again, as we discussed in class -- a 'good' online exhibition is one that is best seen online rather than anywhere else -- but paintings are almost always much better experienced in their analogue reality.... so this is a good online portfolio/promotional site but NOT a good online exhibition.

Aboriginal Art Gallery

Link:
http://www.aboriginalartonline.com/index.php

Description:
The art that is primarily throughout this online display is that of the aboriginal traditional art.
I chose this genre because not only is it a unique type of art but also it is extremely expressive and historic. If you click on the specific link of the Tiwi Islands paintings; the colours and shapes are prominent in making each painting. The detail in aboriginal paintings is low with only colours of red, browns, yellows and whites being used as well as simple shapes. This makes the aboriginal art so special.

http://www.fafi.net/accueil.html - is the website for a french artist by the name of Fafi. I rate her!! I like the way her art is exhibited on the website because: she is sort of a refined graffiti artist who travels the world plastering images of girls onto walls. the online exhibition plays on this well by setting the web page out like a virtual wall where you can scroll along admiring each image as it passes your eye - just as you would if you were to walk down a lane peppered with graffiti. check it out! In fact you could even take a journey to Hosier lane in Melbourne's CBD and check out her art in person - just opposite Misty bar. Word.

The Online Gallery that I have chosen for this exercise is projekt30 that specifically deals with holding online gallery exhibitions. They have a great variety in themes and the mediums that participating artists use. This allows the viewer to obtain the maximum exposure to the experience that the artist tries to convey.

This is a little bit boarderline insofar as many of the works seem like they'd be better experienced in a gallery or other analogue situation, but the combination of works and the relationships that are set up between them would be difficult to achieve otherwise...
